Barry Bonds: most hated man in sports

Okay, I am a Giants fan, but I will list the reasons why fans do not like Bonds (except in San Francisco):

  • Fans say Bonds knew he took steroids
  • Fans respected Babe Ruth more than Bonds, so they do not want his record to be surpassed
  • Bonds is not friendly with the media. He wanted to concentrate in baseball and do not want to deal with the media because it will affect his performance. Therefore, the media wanted to talk shit about Bonds
  • Bonds was involved with BALCO during his record-breaking season in 2001. BALCO supplied Bonds with supplements that was in a form of steroids.
  • The book, Game of Shadows, stated that Bonds took performance-enhancing drugs, including different types of steroids and growth hormone.
  • During his time at Arizona State, Barry Bonds shows up late to several practices and missed some bus trips. However, he was one of the top ranked college baseball players in 1984.
  • CNN reported that federal investigations were looking whether or not Bonds commited pejury.

Reasons why Bonds should not be hated:

  • Bonds is well liked in San Francisco. He dedicated the game to his godfather, Willie Mays, and his father, Bobby Bonds.
  • Bonds is very loyal with his father's and godfather's team. After he was traded from the Pittsburg Pirates during the 1993 season, he was never traded to another team. Otherwise, he would be playing for the New York Yankees instead.
  • Other plays took steroids. Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmerio, Gary Sheffield, Jason Giambi, et. al...why don't these guys get booed more?
  • Before the steroid policy took effect, MLB allowed baseball players to take steroids. There was no drug testing, but there is now. What happens in the past is in the past.
  • Bonds is a complete baseball player. Not only he hits home runs, but he also steal bases during the early part of his career. He had a 40-40 season (40 home runs, 40 stolen bases) in 1996. He is the only member in the 500-500 club.
  • Bonds won eight eight gold gloves, contributing his performance defensively.
  • His trainer, Greg Anderson, is guilty of suppling steroids to him and other athletes.
  • Pithers feared Bonds more than any other baseball player
